UP native held for stealing gold worth Rs 4.5 lakh

PANJIM: The Colvale Police arrested a 20-year-old man hailing from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 4.5 lakh from a house at Assonora.

According to the police, one Blandine Alfonso, resident of Madhlowada, Assonora, lodged a complaint stating that on February 20, 2024, Tuesday, at around 2.30 pm unknown person entered into her house and committed theft of two gold bangles, one gold chain with cross pendant and imitate jewellery, all worth Rs 4.5 lakh from the cupboard and fled from the spot.

The Colvale Police registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of IPC and investigation was taken up.

A team comprising PI Vijay Rane, PSI Sahil Warang, HC Pandurang Naik and constables Sulesh Naik, Nikhit Naik and Sadashiv Parab, was constituted. The team collected intelligence from reliable sources and apprehended the accused identified as Tanveer Ahmed, resident of Assonora, and native of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh from Assonora bus stand.

The gold ornaments have been recovered from the possession of the accused.

PSI Sahil Warang is investigating the case under the guidance of Colvale PI Vijay Rane and under the overall supervision of Mapusa SDPO Sandesh Chodankar and SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
