Upbeat Cong calls for BJP to quit in Goa

Says BJP will now feel pain of Cong workers in Goa, Manipur & Meghalaya

PANJIM: An upbeat Congress party, following the resignation of BS Yeddyurappa in Karnataka, said BJP has got a taste of its own political fruit, the tree of which was planted by them in Goa, and that if BJP in Goa has any shame, it would quit.
Congress State president Girish Chodankar said that it is the victory of India, victory of the Constitution and victory of democracy. “Truth has prevailed against those who were out to destroy our institution,” Chodankar said.
Claiming that BJP will now feel the pain of Congress workers in Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya, Chodankar said, “BJP got taste of its own political fruit that it had planted in all the three States.”
In Goa, after the February 2017 elections, Congress emerged as the single largest party with 17 MLAs, while BJP was reduced to 13 from 21. However, BJP with the support of regional parties and independents, formed the government.
Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar said the BJP failure in the floor test exposed the Karnataka Governor. “Congress had accepted the people’s mandate in Karnataka and hence had extended its support to JD(S) to form the government. However, the governor despite it not having the numbers, invited BJP to form the government and gave them 15 days to prove a majority. This was undemocratic,” Kavalekar said. “The entire drama not only exposed the BJP but also the governor,” he added.
Kavalekar further said that May 19 would be marked in political history as victory of democracy, victory of truth.
Congress general secretary Yatish Naik said that if BJP has any shame, it should resign from the government in Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya.
