VASCO: The chairman of state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) MLA Carlos Almeida on Friday informed that the he along with the KTC employees and other KTC officials have decided to put in all efforts to achieve the goal of becoming the number one state transport organisation in the country.
Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of seminar specially organized for drivers and conductors in Vasco, Alemida said after successfully achieving the target of bringing KTC into profit making organisation, a new target has been set by the KTC to become number one state run Transport Corporation in country.
“Earlier our target was to make KTC a profit-making organisation, now we have set another target to make KTC the number one state transport organisation of the country. All this will be possible with the cooperation of the entire staff. In last five years, KTC under my chairpersonship not a single strike by workers has taken place so now we hope that we will function as a team. Presently, most workers’ issues excluding the 7th pay and bonus have been resolved. Even on the issue of 7th pay and bonus we are in consultation with government seeking solution on how to provide the benefits,” Almeida said.
He further said in wake of the series of fatal accidents taking place on roads in Goa, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had issued some guidelines and as part of the same KTC has decided to hold refresher course for KTC drivers and conductors with the aim of minimizing accidents and breakdowns of KTC buses.
“Safe driving is our top priority. We want to make KTC the safest mode of public transport in the country and we are confident we will achieve this by adopting measures, including better facilities to our staff. We shall upgrade restrooms at major bus stands . To prevent drivers from over-speeding, KTC has decided to instal speed governance system. I have informed our staff that for the next 5 years, I will be very strict and I don’t want to hear complaints of rash driving, overspeeding and unruly behaviour with passengers,” he cautioned.
