Uphold unity, social harmony by rendering selfless service, appeals Governor

MARGAO: Stating that our country has always worked for maintaining peace and harmony and promoted unity with every section of society, Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai appealed to the people to uphold this unity and social harmony by rendering selfless service. 

The Governor visited Navelim constituency under the Goa Sampurna Yatra and disbursed financial assistance to dialysis and cancer patients. 

Governor, while interacting with sarpanchas and other panchas of the local panchayats in Navelim stated that, as the people are supreme in the democratic set up of the country, the Raj Bhavan had come at the doorstep of people extending financial support and expressing its commitment towards serving the people.

He expressed satisfaction as the major part of the State has been covered under his unique Goa Sampurna Yatra initiative. 

“The initiative has successfully extended financial help to over a thousand dialysis and cancer patients,” said the Governor. 

He further informed that orphanages, old age homes and other human service organizations received financial help under the initiative implemented by utilising Governor Discretionary Funds. 

The Governor also expressed happiness as Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over presidency of G20 summit at Bali, Indonesia. 

He lauded folk artists who performed the Kunbi dance on the occasion and expressed the need to further nurture the craft for future generations. 

Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuyenkar lauded the efforts of the Governor for implementing Goa Sampurna Yatra.  

Earlier, Governor Pillai visited Shree Damodar Sal, Margao where Swami Vivekananda had stayed during his historic visit to Goa.  In Navelim constituency, the Governor paid a visit to Our Lady of Rosary Church. 

Secretary to Governor Mihir Vardhan,  IAS (Retd), Additional Collector Paresh Phaldessai, Sub Divisional Officer, Salcete Egna Cleetus, IAS, Rev Fr Gabriel Coutinho, ZP Member Edwin Cardozo and Paresh Naik were present on the occasion.
