Upsurge continues in Mangor Hill; active COVID cases reach 490

41 new cases reported on Sunday out of which 29 are from the hotspot & 4 linked to it

PANJIM: Mangor Hill and surrounding areas in Vasco continue to see rising number of COVID-19 cases as Goa reported 41 new cases on Sunday out of which 29 were from the hotspot and four were linked to it.

As per the health bulletin of the Directorate of Health Services, Goa now has 564 confirmed cases and 74 recoveries. Total active cases are 490.

Sunday also saw four patients recover from the virus.

As per the information provided 29 cases were from Mangor Hill and four cases linked to it. Quepem has reported two cases and cases of those who travelled to Goa are two.

Interestingly, Chimbel, which had reported 10 cases till yesterday has added just one after mass testing began in the locality while New Vaddem, Baina also added one each.

Sada seems to be severely affected with COVID-19 as 8 new cases were reported on Sunday taking the total tally to 13.

Total cases now in Mangor Hill are 272, New Vaddem – 12, Morlem 17, Baina – 24, Chimbel – 11 and Sada – 13.

On Sunday Health Minister Vishwajit Rane visited Hospicio hospital in Margao and took stock of the situation there.

“Held detailed meeting in the presence of Dr Ira, Dr D’Sa, Dr Utkarsh and other health officials to review COVID-19 situation at Margao where positive cases for COVID-19 were found.  Digambar Kamat, who addressed his concerns during the meeting. 

“I have assured him that all the protocols and government SOPs will be strictly implemented in Margao and nearby area with positive cases. We will also be screening people at Azad Nagar and ESI quarters,” Rane said.

He further said, “We shall put forth all the issues raised during the meeting to the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and to the SEC for their consideration. Our health officials are vigorously fighting this battle in the interest of our people of Goa.”

Meanwhile, government also requisitioned several premises including Government college at Quepem and MPT hospital at Sada.
