PANJIM: At least 75 schools, could receive grants of upto Rs 12 lakh under ‘Scheme to provide Special Grant to New Primary Schools in Konkani/Marathi’ now notified by Goa government enabling the schools to claim for financial assistance.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar when making known his policy for Medium of Instruction had verbally announced and later through a circular dated June 18, 2012 stated that the government will give permission to new primary schools opting to impart primary education in Konkani/Marathi, a special grant of Rs 12-lakh and Rs 1-lakh per year for the next five years.
Barely two weeks later, by the July 3, government received more than 75 applications to start schools in either Konkani or Marathi with most of these being applications to start Marathi schools.
All schools that opened after June 18 last year are eligible to apply for the scheme and will get 20% of the amount immediately on signing of MoU and certificate that the school has started functioning.
Sixty per cent of the amount will be released on production of a certificate from Chartered Accountant to the effect that first installment of 20% has been fully utilized for the purpose for which it was granted i.e. for the Infrastructure Development of the school.
The balance 20% will be given on production of a similar certificate that the second installment of 60% has been fully utilized for the purpose after obtaining certificate of completion and obtaining occupancy certificate to the satisfaction of the department.
The schools will get the Rs 1 lakh per annum which will be released at the end of the academic year based on the satisfactory functioning of the school.
The schools can claim expenses on procurement of land, construction and extension of building and compound wall, procurement of furniture, computers, teaching aids and peripherals, books for their library, besides other expenses such as stationery, water purifiers, soaps, detergents their electricity and water bills electrical equipment etc.
