Says CM had pointed to one ‘Monty’, but PP took different stand in Children’s Court

MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai has demanded that the government hand over the Vasco rape case to the Central Bureau of Investigations, accusing the Goa police of failing to achieve a breakthrough in the case.
He wondered why the national media didn’t highlight the Vasco rape case and demanded to know it was only interested in highlighting cases reported in Delhi.
Addressing the press conference, Vijai lashed out at the state government for its failure to achieve a breakthrough in the Vasco girl rape case. He said the police have done nothing during the last one month and half since the incident had come to light.
He expressed his surprise that while Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had allegedly pointed fingers at one Monty in connection with the rape case, the Public Prosecutor had taken a totally different stand in the Children’s Court. “This makes us wonder whether the government is trying to hush up the case,” he said, while demanding a CBI probe into the rape case.
Refuting government’s statement that politicians are trying to politicize the rape case, Vijai said it is the duty of the legislators, and, particularly, those in the opposition to highlight and expose police failure in the investigations.
The Fatorda legislator also took a dig at the NGOs who cried foul and lit candles after the Delhi gang-rape case. He said the NGOs have either gone to sleep or have disappeared instead of taking the Vasco rape case involving a Goan girl.
He also questioned the CM’s statement that the government would constitute a committee of parents vis-à-vis the rape case, saying that such committees will not have any bearing on the investigations, which is right now in the domain of the Goa police.
Saying that law and order situation has hit a rock bottom in recent months, Sardesai said there’s a sense of insecurity in the minds of the people about their future with burglaries, robberies and murders literally the order of the day in the state.
