MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday demanded that the government scrap the programme of replacing the vehicle registration plates with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).
He further demanded that this be made applicable to only those vehicles registered in the next year.
Quoting an official of Transport Department, Aleixo said, “The number plates are invalid and people who fix the new number plates will face trouble from police as well as the transport officials.
While alleging that the HSRP have been introduced without proper study, Aleixo sought to know what kind of security these new number plates offer and whether they have any GPS chip or tracking devise.
Accusing the government of playing with Goans’ sentiments and wasting their time and money, he demanded that the money paid to the contractor be recovered and the new system be made applicable from January 1, 2020 while all other vehicles continue with the old number plates.
