Use of quality stationery to preserve records recommended

PANJIM, MARCH 23 The Assembly committee on Delegated Legislation in its report on The Goa Reconstruction of Registers and Records Act, 2005, has recommended to the government to use stationery of good quality to ensure longer life of documents.

The Assembly committee on Delegated Legislation in its report on The Goa Reconstruction of Registers and Records Act, 2005, has recommended to the government to use stationery of good quality to ensure longer life of documents.
This is in view of the current situation in which old records mainly birth certificates are in are either in tatters or have disappeared from the registers due to poor quality of paper.
The Committee has also called for immediate action to digitalise the records for better preservation.
The committee constituted in 2007 under the chairmanship of  Francis Silveira has also recommended  to the government to  augment the manpower in the offices of Sub-Registers  in the talukas.
It has also urged the committee to review the fee of Rs 20 per page levied on the public and instead has recommended that the government owe compensation to the  public for destruction of records due to poor maintenance.
The report of the committee was presented to the Goa Assembly by Silveira. The other members of the committee are: Nilkant Halarnkar, Vijay Poi Khot, Shyam Satardekar, Reginaldo Lourenco, Rajesh Patnekar and Madadev Naik.
The committee met first on 12th December 2007. The second meeting was held on April 3, 2008 and the third one was held on March 12, 2009.
