Use plastic to pay for veggies at select GSHCL outlets

PANJIM: In an effort to provide relief to consumers affected with the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes,

Goa State Horticultural Corporation Limited (GSHCL) has introduced credit and debit card facilities at a few of their outlets in Panjim.
Goa State Horticultural Corporation Limited has tied up with HDFC Bank to accept payments through credit/debit cards for sale of vegetables and fruits provided at subsidized rates.
The facilities will be available at the outlets at Secretariat, Panjim market and Altinho Super Market. These outlets are the largest sellers of vegetable and fruits.
“Customers are requested to make use of these services for facilitating payments for their purchases. Soon, we will make the facilities available in other outlets also,” a senior official said.
“We had plans to introduce credit card facility at a later stage. With demonetisation, customers and we have been facing a lot of inconvenience due to lack of Rs 100 notes,” an official said.
Vegetable and fruit vendors in Panjim municipal market are facing similar problems due to demonetisation. Vendors are selling items on credit to regular customers while in a few cases, they are accepting old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and depositing the same in banks.
