Use same yardsticks for clearing trucks: Kavlem VP to govt

Sarpanch questions the role of police in moving the alleged illegal truck parking at Curti and not clearing on Dhavali-Farmagudi Road

PONDA: The Kavlem Village Panchayat on Monday demanded that the government authorities should use the same yardsticks while taking actions against alleged illegal truck parking at Curti and Dhavali-Farmagudi.
Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar questioned the role of police in moving the alleged illegal truck parking at Curti and not clearing on Dhavali-Farmagudi Road, which falls under Kavlem panchayat area.
“If they can take action on alleged illegal truck parking at Curti, why same rule is not applied against truck parking at Dhavali-Farmagudi,” said Kavlekar.
He demanded that the authorities including Deputy Collector, Police and RTO should take action or else the locals would be forced to launch agitation.
After the Deputy Collector and Ponda Police took action on alleged illegal truck parking on road in Curti Panchayat area few days ago, the truckers, left with no space moved on Dhavali–Farmagudi Highway in Kavlem, due to which the road has become dangerous for the Kavlem commuters.
Sarpanch Kavlekar said panchayat is receiving several complaints against truck parking on Dhavali-Farmagudi road.
He said around 150 locals residing in Ambegal and Perigol have complained
that because of truck parking it has become nuisance for them and they even can’t walk along the roadside.
Sarpanch informed that since 2014 we are submitting memorandum to police, deputy collector, RTO for removal of illegal truck parking on the Dhavali-Farmagudi Road, but no action has been taken still date.
He said the panchayat has not provided any trade licence to the transport offices on Dhavali-Farmagudi Road and stressed on the need of transport hub as there are four industrial estates in Ponda.
“Most of transport offices are rented by the locals. However, those who have no parking space will be closed down. Only offices with parking space for the trucks will be allowed to operate on this road,” sarpanch mentioned.
He said traffic and PWD have not installed “No Parking” board on the road.
