MARGAO: Extending full support and cooperation to the self help groups engaged in the work of door-to-door waste collection in the city, the Margao Municipal Council has advised members of the SHGs to use tact and not to adopt a confrontationist attitude while collecting garbage collection fees from the households.
Addressing members of the self help groups, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Naveen S L said the civic body would help and assist SHGs in overcoming the teething problems faced by them in the door-to-door waste collection scheme and reminded them that the SHGs are entitled for government loans.
“While collecting the garbage collection fees, ensure that you do not get into a confrontationist attitude with the members of the households. If anyone refuses to pay the money, be polite and act with tact to collect the fees,” Naveen advised.
MMC Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello thanked the self help groups for taking over the door-to-door waste collection in many wards of the civic body.
He said the SHGs can make use of tricycles to collect and transport waste collected from the households.
On the occasion, the municipality distributed identity cards to members of the SHGs engaged in the door-to-door waste collection.
