Usgao church expresses solidarity with mining dependent people

PONDA: Expressing solidarity with the mining dependent people, St Joseph Church Usgao Parish Priest Fr Felix Lobo said the time had come for resumption of mining activity in the State for the survival of the mining-affected people.

Fr Lobo pledged his support to about 300 mining affected people at a meeting at St Joseph School, Usgao.
The mining dependent people, mostly comprising of truckers, contract workers and employees from mining companies from Usgao and surrounding areas, informed Fr Lobo how people and their children have been suffering due to closure of mining in the State.
Fr Lobo urged the people to remain active in demanding resumption of mining and resort to an agitation in a peaceful manner.
“Mining in Goa should resume soon and at the same time, sustainability issues should be taken care of.
Mining should be done to provide livelihood to the people, who have been traditionally dependent on it. Mining needs to be resumed at the earliest, but not on a rampant scale,” he said.
He said he would extend his support to these people as he has seen their suffering since mining was stopped in the state.
