PONDA: Barely a week after being accused of releasing furnace oil into a rainwater drain, a factory in Usgao-Ponda has now been blamed for releasing wastewater from the plant.
According to information, the villagers noticed large quantities of wastewater in the rainwater drain and alerted the panchayat members, who rushed to the site.
A company official was then made to give in writing that the mistake would not be repeated in future.
It may be recalled that last week the company had allegedly released large quantities of furnace oil in the rainwater drain. A team from the Goa pollution control board had taken the samples and the report is awaited.
In a letter to the panchayat, the company official claimed that one of the waste pits had overflowed during the night shift and as a result, the waste overflowed and accumulated in the rainwater drain.
Claiming that a barricade that was built could not contain the waste, the official has also assured to pump out the accumulated waste from the rainwater drainage.
