PONDA: The locals of Nanus and Kosme, Usgao fed up with irregular water supply and its timing on Monday gheraoed Assistant Engineer Ganesh Kodlurkar of PWD Water Supply Division at Daag, Ponda demanding to solve their issue on priority basis.
The locals grilled and confronted the AE over why only villagers from Nanus and Kosme are not getting water to meet their requirement. The locals were furious as they have to spent sleepless nights because of not only irregular water supply but also its timing which has no consistency. Some time the water is also released at 3 am to 4 am.
The locals said many a time they can’t go to their jobs as they have to stay home waiting for water supply and its storage.
The locals said, “They have complained several times during past many years but there is no solution to their problem. Eight years ago, taking note of water shortage, PWD had replaced the 90 mm pipeline to 150 mm dia but the problem still persists because now new constructions, houses have cropped up. They are given connections from the pipeline that is supplying water to our localities. Due to this, water is not reaching to our areas at a sufficient pressure.”
The locals also demanded to disconnect these new connections and supply them water through installing new pipeline.
The locals also complained that water pipeline is below the gutter meant for drain of rain water, however, some people had released waste water into it and due to this gutter is filled with waste and in case of leakage of this waste water into pipeline it may spread disease in the area.
A local Pralhad Gaude said, “The problem has prevailed over a decade and they are frequently complaining it but since past almost 15 days their tap ran dry and faced tremendous hardship for water forcing them to visit the AE office.”
Later, AE Ganesh assured them to solve their grievances as early as possible.
