PONDA:  The Usgao villagers have threatened to stage dharnas in front of the gates of industrial units that harass their workers, deny salary hikes and labour benefits and also for not employing the local youth.
The threat was made during the village gram sabha on Sunday wherein those employed in the units at the local industrial estate, complained that they are being harassed, denied salary hikes and labour benefits. The meeting was also informed that the local youth was denied employment in the industrial units.
The villagers appealed to the panchayat to take up these issues with the industries concerned and solve the same. Subsequently, the villagers threatened to stage dharnas in front of the gates of industrial units if they continued to harass the workers, deny them salary hikes and labour benefits.
The need for a new PDA market was also discussed at the gram sabha, wherein the villagers said that the present market is in a dilapidated condition due to official neglect. Therefore, the villagers said, the present building needs to be demolished and a new building  constructed in its place. It was suggested that the new building should have space for 800 vendors and a community hall with a 1500-seating capacity.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha took the panchayat to task for allegedly wasting Rs 1.5 lakh in preparing a market plan which has now been scrapped and asked, “Who will refund the money spent on the scrapped plan?”
The villagers, meanwhile, demanded erection of speed breakers at Ganjem. A resolution was also passed on to door-to-door garbage collection and proper disposal.
