PONDA: Vinay Ratnakant Raikar, a resident of Tisk Usgao was arrested on Thursday for murdering of his tenant Vijay Harichandra (35), a native of UP, for not paying house rent.
According to Ponda PI Harish Madcaikar the victim who was working as labourer had arrived in Goa five month ago and was residing in a rented room belonging to the accused along with his wife and two children.
The victim was residing in a house for a monthly rent of Rs 1500. However, the victim was unable to pay the rent for two months as he was unemployed during this period but promised to pay the same on Wednesday but failed to pay the full amount of Rs 3000 as the owner with whom he worked paid him only Rs 1000.
The victim went to the accused house owner on Wednesday night at around 8 pm and offered him the Rs 1000 as part payment of the accumulated rent. However, the accused was not happy which led to a heated confrontation between the two and in a fit of rage the house owner assaulted the victim who fell unconscious.
The victim’s wife who was present at the spot rushed her unconscious husband to PHC Usgao and Ponda Sub District Hospital at around 11 pm where he was declared dead by the doctors. Ponda Police arrested the accused and an offence has been registered under Section 302 for murder.
