Utorda water woes: Locals rubbish PWD’s ‘corroded pipes’ claim

MARGAO: Residents of Utorda have contested claims made by the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding corroded water pipes

being the cause of inadequate water supply, alleging instead that the real issue lies in the department’s failure to address the issue seriously.

Questions have arisen regarding the disparity in water supply between residents of a large housing project and others in the same area, with citizens questioning why those near the housing project receive regular water with high pressure while others do not.

Several Utorda residents continue to face difficulties due to inadequate water supply, despite PWD attributing the problem to corroded and old pipes laid by residents. Recently, the department issued notices requesting pipe replacements, a move met with skepticism by locals.

Savio Pereira, speaking to O Heraldo, refuted PWD’s claims, stating that upon inspection by a plumber, it was discovered that the pipes were not corroded but still experienced a lack of water flow.

“PWD’s assertion is entirely false. I personally had the pipes checked, and they were found to be in good condition. However, the plumber confirmed that water flow through the pipes was minimal,” Pereira stated.

Residents note that while a large housing project in the area receives regular water supply, other citizens face shortages. They argue that replacing pipes is not a solution, but rather increasing water pressure, a measure PWD appears reluctant to undertake.
