UTTA leader launches poll campaign in Mardol

PONDA: Independent candidate and UTTA leader Govind Gavde launched his election campaign with huge rally at Mardol,

on Sunday. Earlier, he offered coconut to Godess Mahalsa seeking her blessings to fight the forthcoming election.
Gavde is believed to be a strong candidate since he secured around 10,000 votes in the 2012 Assembly elections, but lost to MGP’s Deepak Dhavalikar.
On the occasion, Gavde called for change in Goa and criticised the government for amending the Agricultural Tenancy Act that, according to him, deprived the farmers of land which they were tilling.
He said that he participated in agitations against the amendment and it would be his top priority to revoke the amendment, if elected.
Claiming that unemployment and lack of education are the main problems facing Priol constituency, he said, if elected he would strive hard to provide jobs to local youth and quality education in the constituency.
Konkani writer Hema Naik said that Priol constituency remained undeveloped during last ten years. She said the passengers are suffering due to lack sufficient number of passenger buses plying in the constituency.
“Those ferrying passengers are old and breakdown on the way adding to plight. Further, the roads have developed potholes and sitting the MLA failed to raise this issue against in assembly. The anganwadis are housed in cramped premises,” she said.
On the occasion, Gavde opened his campaign office at Mardol Bazaar.
