Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse: Trapped Workers Safe, Ongoing Rescue Operations Underway

Rescue and relief efforts persist following the partial collapse of an under-construction tunnel on the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarakhand, trapping 40 workers. Silkyara Control Room reported the workers’ safety via walkie-talkies, confirming they remain unharmed. Supplies, including food and oxygen, are being channeled through a pipe to support those trapped. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami personally assessed the situation at the Silkyara tunnel.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local authorities promptly mobilized on learning of the incident. Heavy machinery, including JCBs and a Poclain, is deployed to clear debris within the 13-meter-wide tunnel. An evacuation passage, approximately 60 meters away, is underway to reach the trapped workers. Officials affirm the safety measures in place, ensuring oxygen access to the workers.

In the ongoing rescue operation at Silkyara Tunnel, CM PS Dhami assured that all possible help, including PM’s assurance, is in place. The combined efforts of NDRF, SDRF, and experts aim to safely retrieve the stranded individuals, reassuring their families of the government’s unwavering rescue commitment.
