PANJIM: In a shocking incident, the Pernem police arrested a native of Uttarakhand for allegedly attempting to murder a Swedish tourist and a local person at a resort on Thursday.
Pernem DySP Rajesh Kumar stated that the accused Abhishek Verma, a bar tender at the same hotel was nabbed by the police and booked for attempt to murder besides other charges.
The tourist in her complaint to the Pernem police stated that in the intervening night of March 29-30, an unknown male criminally trespassed into her rented tent at the hotel premises. Kumar stated that when the woman saw the intruder in her tent, she screamed for help.
“To stop her from screaming, the drunk assailant tried to hold and suffocate her and but she bit his hand in self defence, which send the man fleeing but forgot to take his phone from the site of crime,” added Kumar.
By then, the assailant came back fully armed with a knife and assaulted both the foreigner and the man who had come to her rescue, took his phone and fled.
The Pernem police then swung into action and managed to identify the accused on the basis of a wound inflicted on his hand by the woman and was he arrested and booked under Under Section 452, 354, 307, 506 (II) of IPC for Tresspass, Outraging Modesty, Attempt to Murder among other sections. Police also recovered the knife used in the commission of the crime. PSI Vivek Halarnkar is investigating the case under the supervision of Pernem DySP Rajesh Kumar.
