Uzbek national dies in scuffle over girlfriend

A petty quarrel over a girlfriend took a violent turn in Mandrem when an Uzbek national died in a scuffle with a Russian after falling off the second floor of a guesthouse at Ashvem-Mandrem in the wee hours of Tuesday. The Russian national has been arrested in this connection.

PERNEM: A petty quarrel over a girlfriend took a violent turn in Mandrem when an Uzbek national died in a scuffle with a Russian after falling off the second floor of a guesthouse at Ashvem-Mandrem in the wee hours of Tuesday. The Russian national has been arrested in this connection.

According to Pernem Police, the Uzbek national Oscar Kayunov (34) and his girlfriend were residing at Ashvem beach. Kayunov contacted the accused, Alexander Hiplito (26), a Russian national, over the internet and had invited him to stay with them at Ashvem beach for a day.

Police further informed that Kayunov and Hiplito entered into an argument after dinner and drinks and the topic was in connection with Kayunov’s girlfriend. 

An infuriated Hiplito, grabbed a metal rod and allegedly assaulted Kayunov, who fell off the second floor of the guest house and was seriously injured. 

Hiplito also fell down on a hut which was near the guest house and escaped with minor injuries.

Kayunov was rushed to a private hospital at Duler-Mapusa, from where he was referred to GMC Hospital in Bambolim. However, doctors declared the victim dead on arrival.

Later, the victim’s girlfriend filed a police complaint against the accused and Pernem Police arrested Hiplito and he is presently in the Pernem police lockup.

Police said a case under Sections 329 and 302 of IPC has been registered against the accused. Police have also attached the metal rod.

SP Vishram Borkar and Mapusa DySP Serafin Dias visited the site to take stock of the situation and Pernem Police is investigating the case.
