Vaccination drive in city for homeless, foreigners evokes massive response

PANJIM: The two-day COVID vaccination drive for those Indian nationals who do not have valid cards and foreign nationals above the age of 18 received a great response.

People from Nepal, homeless persons and nomads were amongst the biggest group who received their first vaccination doses at centres such as the Don Bosco School in Panjim (which vaccinated 1,569 persons on Saturday).

Over 2,000 people had registered for the same on the first day but as all could not be accommodated, thus prompting the government authorities to extend the vaccination drive.

The decision to conduct this vaccination drive was taken as per the recommendations of the State expert committee on Friday in order to get maximum beneficiaries vaccinated in Goa.

Overall, and not just this drive alone, 18,966 people were vaccinated in Goa on Saturday and 10,927 on Sunday.

At present, the State government has 2,36,500 vaccine stock available.
