panjim: Directorate of Health Services (DHS) is geared up to start vaccination programme for special category groups from Thursday, as announced by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Priority will be given to parents of children who are below two years and co-morbid people in the 18-44 age group. In addition to this, autorickshaw and taxi drivers, yellow and black motorcycle pilots, persons with disabilities (PwD) and seafarers will also be given preference, DHS State immunisation programme, Chief Medical Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar said.
Borkar said these vaccination programmes will be conducted at 37 centres of the DHS across the State. If the need arises, more centres will be added.
To a question, Borkar said DHS has more than two lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses and talks are on with the Union Ministry of Health Family Welfare to procure more vaccines.
The total vaccine doses allocated to Goa by the Government of India is 7,31,720 and till 9 am on Tuesday, the State had 2,44,170 balance vaccine doses.
Meanwhile, 4009 people were given COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday taking the total number of doses administered to 5,21,940. Of the 4,009 people, 2,767 took vaccines at hospitals and health centres while, 1,242 persons took vaccines at the ongoing Tikta Utsav centres.
Till date 96,202 people have been fully vaccinated, while 3,29,536 have been partially vaccinated.
