PANJIM: The Anjuna Police on Friday said that the pathology report of Sachin Venu Gopal Kurup, the accused in the Vagator accident case, for blood alcohol has been reported to be ‘nil’ which meant that he was not drunk when the accident took place.
“We had sent blood samples for narco and alcohol detection to different agencies. We have received a report from the Department of Health Services, which states that blood alcohol has been found to be nil. Further investigation is still on,” Superintendent of Police, North Goa, Nidhin Valsan told reporters.
Sachin Venu Gopal Kurup (42) was on Thursday remanded to 14 days judicial custody after he reportedly drove his SUV recklessly, which resulted in the tragic death of a resort owner and injuries to two staff members last week.
The victim, who was engaged in a phone conversation with a client outside the reception area, suffered fatal injuries as Kurup’s vehicle collided with her at a high speed. Two resort staff members, 22-year-old Shiv Mangal Dindo and 31-year-old Rupa Paras, also sustained injuries in the same incident and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Kurup, currently residing at Villa Casa Blanca in Assagao, had purportedly visited the resort to see a friend when the unfortunate incident transpired. The Anjuna Police booked the accused for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Second blood sample report awaited: Police
Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi said, “Two samples were preserved. One was for consumption of alcohol which was sent to the Pathology Department, North District Hospital, Mapusa. The second blood sample was collected through a police surgeon at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, which we forwarded to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Verna. That report is awaited.”
