MARGAO: ‘Vakhann’nni’, a sacred music concert in honour of His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão was held at Holy Spirit Church, here, wherein nearly 70 singers and also a children choir consisting of 70 children and 64 musicians participated.
Addressing the gathering, Cardinal Filip Neri Ferrão said that all must Praise God through our songs. “We must witness God through our music,” he appealed.
The concert which was open for all commenced at 7 pm sharp. Music lovers were noticed in huge numbers to witness the same. The motive behind this concert was to praise and thank God for the gift of Cardinal Ferrão in the Archdiocese of Goa for the first time in history after 456 years.
This concert raised hearts and minds to God for the gift of His Eminence which was organised by the parishioners of Holy Spirit Church, Margao.
The ‘Vakhann’nni’ group consisted of not only the parishioners of Holy Spirit but also from various neighbouring and far villages from North Goa and South Goa. In this concert, most of the sacred hymns were in honour of our Good Shepherd, The Christ, who is represented by His Eminence Cardinal Ferrão.
The reporetier which consisted of Sanctus in C Major by J S Bach, Gloria K-317 by W A Mozart and also music by Fr Romeo Monteiro, Fr Matthew Rebello, Fr Bernardo Cota, Fr Camilo Xavier Barreto, Thomas Aquino Sequiera and Fr Simon D’Cunha.
The orchestra and the choir were conducted by Fr Simon Mathew D’Cunha, who is the ex-music professor of Rachol Seminary and conductor of Santa Cecilia Choir. This event was managed and coordinated by the Borda parishioners under the guidance of Fr Jovial Fernandes.
