SANGUEM: The residents of rehabilitated Valkini Colony No 3 are seriously doubting the quality of drinking water supplied to them by the water supply department.
Panch Manoj Paryekar, representing Valkini ward of Bhati panchayat, informed that the lone overhead water tank in the village from which potable water is supplied to the villagers has not been cleaned since last six years and there are serious doubts over the quality of water that is supplied in the village.
Paryekar also informed that the overhead water tank in the village was constructed several years ago and the same is in a dilapidated condition as the department concerned has failed maintain the water tank since its construction.
“Moreover, the construction of the water tank has also drawn flak as there are no steps for the workers to climb up the water tank to clean it,” Paryekar informed.
Additionally, over the time, the concrete portion of the tank is peeling off and the debris has fallen in the tank.
“Meanwhile, to make matters worse, the water tank lies in the property owned by Water Resources Department and efforts by the water supply department to reconstruct the tank are held up for want of NOC from the Water Resources Department,” Paryekar informed.
To simplify the process of getting the NOC from WRD, the Bhati panchayat had recently passed a resolution for immediately reconstructing the tank and urging the WRD to issue NOC to the water supply department to reconstruct the water tank for the benefit of the villagers.
