According to the people of the area, the taps run dry only on Friday and on other days they don’t face such problems. Some residents claimed that due to the shortage of water on Friday, they face hardship as they have to attend Friday prayers and have to take a bath and do other washing requirements before going to the mosque.
This is the scenario for more than a year and the matter was brought to the notice of the authorities. Locals said that every time they contacted the Assistant Engineer Dattaram Seth inquiring about this issue, he has given the same answer over and over again, saying that maintenance work was on going.
The Councillor of ward 10 Shaizin Shaikh said that the people, specially the Muslims, are facing problems due to shortage of water on Fridays. “This issue is not new to me as this is happening for a long time. Friday prayers are one of the important prayers for the Muslim community. I request the authorities not to undertake maintenance work on Fridays.
Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane reacted quickly on this issue and said that this is totally wrong and the government should be sensitive on this issue. “The PWD minister should pay attention. This attitude is not acceptable as on Friday the Muslim community perform their important prayers.
