VALPOI: An organisation which has been taking care of stray cattle for nine years has not received any aid from the government despite being eligible.
Hanuman Parab, President of Jai Shreeram Gosavardhan Kendra said the ghoshala was running with the help of donations, people support and God’s blessings.
He said the earlier government had announced in the Assembly that a special financial package was there for those organizations working for street cattle. However, nothing had been forthcoming and they were now continuously following up with the government.
The Valpoi Municipal Council, he said, delayed giving the NOC for 14 months for a stray cattle scheme and it was finally given two week ago. He said, “Now we have submitted our stray cattle scheme file to the Director of Animal Husbandry for further process.”
Ramchandra Laxman Joshi, a member of Gosavardhan Kendra, says every day, they are spending Rs 40,000 on Goshala’s work which amounts to Rs 12 lakhs per month and Rs 1.5 crore per year.
This Gosavardhan Kendra at present houses 360 cattle. Of that 159 are cows and 201 are bulls. All are Indian breed.
They are doing home delivery of cow milk in the area like Valpoi and Bicholim. And they are making the products like curd, butter milk, ghee, sweet, gomutra, sheni, cow dung cake, organic fertilizers and pesticides through urine of cows.
All 360 cattle were rescued and some donated by people. It gets fodder for cows from Karnataka and is growing green grass at goshala. Almost 20 workers are working in this goshala on daily wages.
He said, “We are selling the milk at Rs 60 per litre. And we are not selling milk to Goa Dairy because they are giving just Rs 23 per litre. That’s why we are not providing Doctor felicities to goshala’s cows.”
