“It’s been known from reliable sources that only one attacker has been arrested till now and even though we have identified other attackers, the police have failed to arrest other culprits. We have been provided temporary police protection but we still are living under the fear of villagers of Nirankal,” said a tribal women
Stating that they are currently living without roof and sleeping on the floors under the open sky in this cold winter season. The villagers have also destroyed their solar batteries and lights, thus making them stay in the dark. Other tribal women had to say this “There is no electricity and drinking water connection to us, we have to walk miles in the jungle for water. So we unfortunately use polluted water which badly affects the health of our families. We have no source of income and do not get any government schemes either.”
Further claiming their children have to walk 10 miles for schools as there is no transport facility and also have to struggle for kerosene for cooking food as they don’t have any gas cylinder connections. Meanwhile, the tribal women have also submitted a memorandum to the Women’s Rights Commission (WRC) requesting them to give them justice and providing them to provide all the said facilities.
The tribals said that at the time of demolishment of their huts one of their community members had been injured and is currently undergoing treatment but no action has been taken against the culprits.
However the members of the WRC have promised to provide a solution and have agreed to take their demands to the chief minister.
