Varca gets new Deputy Sarpanch

MARGAO: Solan Furtado was elected unopposed as the new Varca Deputy Sarpanch.

Taking over the post from former Deputy Sarpanch Roland Fernandes, Furtado was the lone panch who submitted his nomination papers.

Thus, at the meeting convened by the presiding officer, where seven of the nine panch members showed up, Furtado was elected as the new deputy sarpanch.

While speaking to media persons, Furtado thanked his colleagues and assured that he along with the sarpanch Salesiana Fernandes and his fellow panch members of the ruling panel, would continue to work together for the benefit of the village.

Furtado listed the development works already completed such as the launching of the Common Service Centre (CSC), which has helped

the village and surrounding areas, then the palliative care programme which is helping 45 patients at their doorsteps as well as a programme

to help diabetic patients which is organised in the panchayat hall.

He said that there is a land constraint but they are looking to construct a futsal court

and a library, set up an UMID centre and get the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) commissioned to improve the garbage management.

Furtado said that they are also working on providing the villagers with a dedicated hearse van.
