Varca GS objects to TCP amendments

MARGAO:  At an extraordinary gram sabha of Varca Village Panchayat, the villagers resolved to oppose the Goa Land Development and Building Construction (Amendment) Regulations and write to the Chief Town Planner, conveying the same.

“The Goa Land Development and Building Construction (Amendments) Regulations 2022 are rejected and must be withdrawn, instead amendments must be initiated for stringent environmental protection in view of the climate change, sea level rise, food and water security etc, State action plan on climate change for the State of Goa, past destruction of the environment and various scientific studies, demanding stronger protection on the environment,” read the resolution passed.

“Ward-level planning and preparation of RP 2031 for a stronger environmental protection must be initiated immediately,” the gram sabha resolved further.

The gram sabha resolved that all low-lying areas of Goa, which are our flood water retention areas, must be protected immediately from all conversions, and permissions granted, ongoing works and proposals requiring the filling of low-lying areas must be revoked and stopped. It further resolved that any constructions on eco-sensitive zones (eco-I & eco-II zones are also called A1 & A2 zones) shall be prohibited.
