MARGAO: In order to ease the hardships faced by the villagers for the civic matters, the Varca Village Panchayat on Sunday launched an initiative called ‘Common Service Centre’ (CSC) and claimed that their village is the first in the state of Goa to take steps towards providing the services through CSC.

The Panchayat has also declared that people of neighbouring villages will also be entitled to avail the benefits of the CSC. This centre is an initiative launched in association with M&M Enterprises and the villagers will not need to go to the District Collector’s office at Margao to get certificates.

Speaking to reporters Sarpanch Salisiana Fernandes said that CSC is a digital platform offering citizen services for the people of Varca.

“Through this centre birth and death certificates, Aadhaar card, pan card and other services will be provided, and hence the villagers will not have to rush to the District Collector’s office,” she informed.

The Sarpanch also informed that panchayat was in the process of setting up such a type of centre in the past; however, later they met with the officials of the M&M Enterprises, wherein help was provided in going ahead with the initiative.

“The neighbouring villages of Varca can also avail benefits from the CSC instead of going to Margao,” said Sarpanch.

Roland Fernandes, Deputy Sarpanch said that this is a New Year gift to the villagers of Varca.

“At the time when the panchayat body was in discussion about the development plans for the village, we had come up with an idea of setting up CSC. We are very proud to achieve this,” he stated.

According to Movin Menezes of M&M Enterprises, the biggest problem for the people of Varca and other villages of the coastal belt is to travel to Margao to avail services.

“We thought having an outlet like this will help the citizens. When everyone and even the government is going for digitalization we planned to help the panchayat by setting up the centre,” Menezes added.
