PANJIM/MARGAO: Led by Porvorim MLA and Information Technology (IT) Minister Rohan Khaunte, friends and well wishers of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday organised a Mahamrityunjaya jaap for his quick recovery.
The Maha Mrityunjaya Jaap addresses Lord Shiva. It is a blend of three Hindi language words – ‘Maha’, which means great, ‘Mrityun’ means death and ‘Jaya’ means victory, which is translated as victory over death.
“I was overwhelmed to see so many people come together to pray for our beloved CM Manohar Parrikar. 10000 ‘Mahamrutunjaya Jap’ and ‘havan’ was carried out at the Pundalik Devasthan, Porvorim in view of his ill health. I request all my fellow Goenkars to continue praying for the speedy recovery of our CM and strength to his family too,” Khaunte said.
Also, verses from the Quran and Duwa were recited on Friday afternoon for the speedy recovery of the Chief Minister at the Sunni Gausiya Masjid, Socorro.
A special mass was offered by Manohar Parrikar’s well wishers from Mala for his recovery and good health at the Immaculate Conception Church in Panjim.
There will also be prayers at Our Lady of Socorro Church, Our Lady of Salvation Church at Salvador do Mundo, Our Lady of Penha de Franca Church, and Holy Family Church at Porvorim on Sunday, at 7am.
On Friday well wishers of Parrikar, in presence of the Chief Minister’s son Abhijat, conducted a sudarshan hom and dhanvantari puja at Gramdevta Mahalaxmi Temple for his good health and speedy recovery.
Salcete prays for CM
Although Salcete spurned the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Assembly elections in all the eight constituencies of the taluka, people of Salcete cutting across party lines and religion prayed fervently for the well being of Parrikar during his recent illness.
Congress MLAs Clafacio Dias and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco both said they prayed for his well being and added that God has saved him in the interest of Goa. “Now that he has returned to Goa I hope he will sanction the many pending works in the constituency,” said Clafacio Dias.
Reginaldo disclosed that he was planning to have a litany at the famous Handi Khuris at Maina which is said to be very miraculous and where many people offer prayers asking for heavenly intervention in earthly matters.
He said that Goans cutting across political affiliations and religion, praying for the chief minister’s well fare was true Goenkarponn and hoped the chief minister takes cognisance of it. “This was God’s way of warning the chief minister to take all communities with him instead of fostering only one community,” he said.
Deputy Sarpanch of Chinchinim-Deussua Valentino Barreto said the people from his ward prayed fervently for the chief minister’s good health. “We had a prayer service at the Dandevaddo junction where the ward members participated. Besides, the Legion of Mary also had a prayer service which was attended by tiny tots too,” he said.
Macasana Sarpanch Agnelo D’Costa disclosed that people prayed for his good health at the way of the cross ceremony held recently and the Basic Christian Community at Kupator in the village also prayed for his health.
“Personally I really appreciate the Chief Minister for returning to the Assembly to present the budget as anybody else would have opted for resting,” he said adding that Goa should benefit from his return to the State.
Social Activist Auda Viegas said she wanted Manohar Parrikar to be at the helm of affairs and urged him to take care of his health. While pointing out that she does not pray, she said she had sent positive vibrations to the chief minister for his speedy recovery.
“Personally I respect and admire Manohar Parrikar as a person as he has displayed great respect for women throughout and I truly despise people who pass snide comments against him,” she said.
