VASCO: The pre-monsoon showers brought much-needed respite from the heat to the port town; however, the residents of Vasco, New Vaddem and Khariwada were inconvenienced due to the loss of power supply over the last two days.

While parts of the port town also faced erratic power supply, the residents of Vasco, New Vaddem and Khariwada complained that there was no power from Monday night till Tuesday morning.

“Though proper power supply was restored late Tuesday night, there was load sharing for two hours,” informed a resident.

The residents complained that their food items and other perishable goods were spoilt. They claimed that the Electricity Department failed to restore complete power supply till late Wednesday evening and efforts to contact the Electricity Department proved futile as there was no one attending to the phones.

Residents from Baina and other parts complained that electrical appliances like ovens, TVs and other items suffered damage due to due to erratic power supply.

When contacted, Executive Engineer Gopinathan Pillai said the power failure was due to the failure of 6.3 MVA transformer which supplies power to New Vaddem, Mangore and Khariwada.

“We have brought a new 6.3 MVA transformer for Sancoale and are in the process of installing it and hope to restore power by early Wednesday night,” said Pillai.

As far as load sharing is concerned, Pillai said they have diverted power supply from the harbour substation to the residents of New Vadden, Mangor, Chicalim, Vasco and Khariwada as a relief measure.

He said the new transformer at Sancoale, once installed, would ensure uninterupted power to Vasco.
