VASCO: The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad on Monday carried out inspections in the town to check for violations under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA).
The squad booked cases for violation of Section 4 and recovered Rs 2,000 in fines from the kiosks, fast-food stalls, sweet marts and an exhibition-cum-sale at GTDC Residency.The violation of Section 4 of COTPA by the kiosks would be reported to the South Goa Collector. During the inspections, the squad found that in some establishments “No Smoking” signage was not properly displayed as required under COTPA.
Earlier, the taluka enforcement squad met Railway Station manager Ramdas Gudemane and discussed the need to declare Vasco Railway Station as “Tobacco Free Zone” by installing special signage as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
