VASCO: Renovation and repair work of the dilapidated railway over-bridge at Driver Hill in Vasco was inspected by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Saturday.
The railway over-bridge was in bad shape and needed attention. The work of old concrete dismantling and replacing the rusty braces and channels which are essential for the stability of the bridge had started recently. To inspect the work undertaken by the railway authorities of this footbridge, Almeida visited the site where the work is ongoing.
After the inspection, Almeida said that he was happy that the railway authorities have undertaken the maintenance work at their own cost and the State government is not burdened to spend fund on this work. The work is expected to finish by mid June, he said. When questioned whether the retaining wall underneath of footbridge would come off, Almeida replied in negative and added that the pitching work underneath the foot.
A Driver Hill Rajendra Dicholkar informed that the maintenance work of over-bridge is being undertaken after 20 years.
He said that a parallel road, stage and a drain will have to be built near a temple at Driver Hill which is the need of the hour and the people have been demanding the same since long time.
Railway Station Master P C Chacko declined to comment on the ongoing maintenance work of the over-bridge.
