Vasco police arrest two persons for assaulting staff while on duty

Vasco police arrested two individuals, 18-year-old Amit Kamat and 25-year-old Fahad Tinvale, in the early hours of Thursday for using criminal force against police personnel while they were on duty. The incident occurred when officers PSI Sawant and Constable Gaonkar encountered the two men consuming alcohol on the road in Mangor around 1:30 a.m.

Upon questioning, the individuals became aggressive and engaged in an argument with the officers. Despite being under the influence of alcohol, they forcefully pushed the head constable and even inflicted self-injuries by breaking a beer bottle on their own heads.

False accusations of police assault were made by the duo, leading to their apprehension and transfer to the Vasco police station. They continued to cause a disturbance, prompting the registration of an official complaint. Charges have been filed against them under Sections 353, 504, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 34 (vi) of the Indian Police Act, for using criminal force against staff while on duty.

The investigation is currently being carried out by Head Constable Suresh Dasar under the supervision of Police Inspector Kapil Nayak and the guidance of Mormugao Deputy Superintendent of Police Salim Shaikh.
