VASCO: The Vasco police have decided to continue the enforcement of compulsory the helmet rule under Motor Vehicle Act with the same vigour. The Vasco police on Tuesday booked 46 offenders for not wearing helmet.
It may be recalled that the people from Vasco on Tuesday had surrounded the traffic police opposing the enforcement of helmet rule and objected to challaning the offenders.
Vasco Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo said, “We have booked 46 cases of rider without helmet and will continue the same.” When asked how they plan to continue the action, he said, “Under the M V Act, wearing of helmet compulsory and will continue.”
“There has been an increase in fatal accidents in Vasco and especially head injuries have been high in accidents. We will continue the exercise to prevent further accidents,” Raposo said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Vasco Sunita Sawant said, “Public is just trying to find reasons to avoid wearing helmets while riding bikes. Law is very clear regarding wearing of helmet.”
“If there are complaints filed regarding obstruction from performing lawful duties, action will be taken as per law,” Sawant warned.
