Vasco police write to transport dept to cancel permit of vehicle in Chicalim mishap

Appeals that minor driver shouldn’t get a licence till he is 25

VASCO: The Vasco police on Saturday wrote to the Mapusa RTO asking them to cancel registration for one-year of the vehicle involved in accident at Chicalim and not to issue driving licence to the minor driver till he attained the age of 25 years.

The police also added section 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC to the case registered against the minor driver on Friday.

Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said that the police have written to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Vasco intimating them about the addition of Section 304 IPC. The police have also written to the Assistant Director of Transport (ADT), Mapusa asking them to initiate necessary action as per Section 199A sub-section 4 and 5 of Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act against the owner of the car and the minor driver which will result in cancellation of the registration of the vehicle involved in the accident for a period of 12 months.

PI Nayak said that it will also prevent the issuing of leaner’s licence or driving licence to the said minor driver until he attained the age of 25 years. 

Presently the accused minor driver is kept in Apna Ghar, Merces and he will be produced before the JJB for remand on Tuesday, November 29. 

As per the amended Motor Vehicles Act, the owner of the registered vehicle and parents or guardians of the minor either caught driving or involved in the accident could face three-year jail term and a fine of Rs 25,000.
