Vasco, Ponda cops hold meeting with Ganesh mandal members

PONDA/VASCO: The Vasco and Ponda police  on Thursday held a joint meeting with the members of various Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals in Mormugao and Ponda talukas and discussed do’s and don’ts for peaceful celebrations of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival starting from September 19.

Addressing mediapersons, Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh said the members of the committees organising Sarvajanik Ganesh celebrations were requested that the pandals should install CCTV cameras to prevent any untoward incidents.

“We have also requested them to deploy a security guard because police will be on patrolling duty as many people from Vasco and surrounding areas leave to their native places for Ganesh Chaturthi festival and their flats/residence remain vacant for a long time,” Shaikh said.

He said people have been asked to burst firecrackers as per timings and court orders issued in this regard.

Meanwhile in  Ponda police convened a special meeting with the officials of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals from Ponda and Dharbandora talukas on Thursday and guided them to ensure a trouble-free festival.

DySP Shirodkar suggested all the officials to install CCTV cameras in the pandals in case any unwanted incidents take place.

“There are 29 Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals in both the talukas and the officials of all the organisations have been appealed to install CCTV cameras in the pandals.

The organisations will be required to keep the footage for 15 days.
