VASCO, OCT 27
Residents of Vasco have condemned the brawl involving the two NCP legislators on on Tuesday night, claiming that the incident had tarnished the image of the port town.
“Since both NCP leaders have political differences, they should have sorted out the issue across the table. There was no need for them to fight in a public place, which has tarnished the image of Vasco,” added Adv Rajan Naik, as the incident was the main topic of discussion all over the town.
Voicing similar views, former Dabolim MLA Herculano Dourado has termed the incident as “disgraceful act”. “One need not require permission to step in or out of Vasco,” added Dourado.
Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janata Party on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister sack Revenue Minister Jose Philip D’Souza from the cabinet for an “uncivilized act” in a hotel in Vasco on Tuesday night.
Addressing media persons at his office in Vasco, State BJP Spokesperson Rajendra Arlekar also criticised Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco over allegations that he was distributing money to voters. “If Pacheco was distributing money to voters, then certainly action should be initiated against him,” said Arlekar.
Arlekar, however, claimed that there was no harm if Pacheco was financing any candidates in the polls. “If D’Souza was aware that Pacheco was distributing money to voters, he should have complained to the Mormugao election officer, police or any other concerned authority. There was no need to taken law into his hands,” said Arlekar.
Despite efforts, D’Souza was not available for further comments regarding his future course of action in connection with Tuesday’s incident.
