Vasco Saptah to be plastic free

Deputy collector directs FDA to ensure safety of food items at the fair

VASCO: Vasco plans to have a “plastic free and a safe eatables” Saptah 2018 this year. The Saptah however won’t continue beyond 7 days this year due to a High Court ruling.
Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar on Friday convened a meeting with police, traffic cell, MMC and others to plan the Saptah arrangement. The deputy collector has directed the police as well as the Margao Municipality to strictly follow the plastic ban during the Saptah. The municipality has arranged paper bags to be used as an option to plastic bags to avoid plastic getting scattered all over the streets.
In an attempt to provide safe food and eatables to the revelers the Administration has asked the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) to check on food items sold at the fair.
The deputy collector has given strict instruction to the MMC to hold the Saptah only for 7 days and to remove all the stalls on the night of the last day. This order comes after some local persons who had approached the High Court against holding of Saptah for more than seven days got order in his favour and the High Court has ordered to discontinue the fair after completion of seven days.
A team has been constituted to remove all the encroachments on the streets and to allow free movement of fire tender and ambulances.
The police have asked the MMC to install CCTV cameras at strategic locations to avoid activities of troublemakers.
