Vasco’s waste management system received a significant boost today with the inauguration of two new refuse compactors, an upgrade aimed at improving cleanliness and efficiency across the city. The launch event saw the presence of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar, MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar, and several councillors.
Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho highlighted the ongoing spirit of cooperation between Vasco and Dabolim, recalling how a truck from the Chicalim Panchayat had earlier been provided to Vasco to support waste management efforts.
“These new compactors will ease the workload considerably. I urge citizens not to litter and to use dustbins responsibly. Development in Vasco is clearly visible—people will always talk, but what matters is the work done on the ground,” he said.

Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness across the city, noting that the municipality has taken decisive steps to eliminate dark spots in every ward.
“Most of these problem areas have been cleared. Councillors are doing commendable work, and these compactors will further strengthen the municipality’s efforts,” he said.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar called on residents to cooperate by disposing of garbage responsibly. He also cautioned that strict penalties will soon be imposed on violators.
“We will be installing cameras, and once someone is caught throwing garbage, strict action will follow. I request MLAs not to entertain any calls seeking leniency,” he said.
With the addition of the new compactors, officials expect citywide waste collection and management to improve significantly, helping maintain a cleaner and healthier Vasco.
