Vasco suicide: NGO claims family had property dispute with relatives

MARGAO: Auda Viegas, centre administrator, Sakhi One-Stop Centre, on Thursday claimed that the family was stressed due to some property dispute with their relatives with regard to three members of a migrant family committing suicide, at Vasco.

She said that the police duty-bound to conduct the investigation when a complaint is lodged.

“It is shocking that three members of a migrant family committed suicide. However, the complainant had a sentimental value for the gold item, as he had removed them from the body of his wife who died recently that is the reason for the complaint,” said Auda.

She said that this is the fourth case of stolen gold and if people do not keep it is safe places that the domestic helper cannot access this is bound to happen.

“I know several women who leave their jewellery lying around in their homes. One must understand that preventing the temptation to ‘have-nots’ is absolutely compulsory, on our part,” she further stated.

She informed that since September 2020 at One-Stop Centre, Margao received cases from Salcete where a 12-year-old boy and his sister were tempted to steal gold worth over lakhs, another teenager has robbed antique gold, another worker a little older has also robbed gold jewellery from her employer.
