VASCO: The Vasco Carnival Committee (VCC) has decided to organise entertainment programmes and competitions at 15 locations in Vasco, Dabolim and Mormugao constituencies as part of the carnival celebrations, which take place from February 5 to 9. Vasco will hold the carnival parade on February 8.
“We want every citizen of Vasco, Dabolim and Mormugao to participate in the carnival celebration. Therefore, to reach out to them, we will organize entertainment programmes and competitions at 15 locations, including Baina, Desterro, Mangor, Vaddem, Khariwado, Sada, and Bogmalo,” said Carlos Almeida, Vasco MLA and VCC chairman.
He further said, “We have decided to spend on the decorations and Vasco will be decorated in the days to come. Competitions such as muscle concerns, canoe race, fancy dress, besides entertainment programmes, including tiatr and khel tiatr will be held. The government has given Rs 20 lakh to the VCC and Rs 6 lakh separately for prizes. Also, private sponsorship will be sought. The job of organising the programmes has been given only to the locals. Besides that, a Facebook page has been created to give information about the programmes.”
On Day 1 (Feb 5), Konkani tiatr ‘Havaldar’ will be staged after the inauguration of the carnival celebration at 7 pm, followed by ‘Khel Tiatr’ and ‘Zagor’. On Day 2, a fancy dress competition in the sub-junior and junior category will be organized, followed by Basement Jazz, ‘Khel Tiatr’ and ‘Zagor’ at different locations.
Day 3 will have canoe race, jeep endurance race and tie-breaker competition in Desterro in the morning. In the evening, there will be an inter-school group competition, followed by Black Slades featuring Senorita fame Carlita Mouhini.
On Day 4, the parade will be held, followed by singing troupe Goencho Awaz. On the last day, there will be performances by Unbeatable Dance Crew, Lorna Live, mimicry artist Shaikh Amir. The prize distribution will also be held, followed by a fireworks display.
