Vasco witnesses Shigmo parade on Wednesday

The streets of Vasco filled with exhilaration on Wednesday, as the annual Shigmotsav parade took place with resplendent grandeur. Amidst the cheers and applause of the Vascokars, the spectacle of the parade mesmerized onlookers. The floats, adorned with intricate decorations and illuminated by dazzling lights, portrayed scenes from the timeless epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. 

These mythological depictions, brought to life with captivating light and sound effects, showcased the triumphant battles of gods against demons, captivating the hearts of all who beheld them.

The Shigmotsav parade, steeped in tradition and custom, meandered through the streets of Vasco, offering a glimpse into the unique cultural heritage associated with the festival. The joyous Romtamel, featuring traditional dances like Ghodemodni, Dhangar Dance, Goff, and Morulo, added to the festive fervor. 

Each meticulously crafted float served as a testament to Goa’s rich culture, with participants dressed in traditional attire, adorned with ornate jewelry, and waving colorful flags, creating a spectacle of vibrant hues and cultural pride.

The dhols (Goan instrument) beats add an electrifying atmosphere, creating a sense of excitement and joy. Every element of Shigmotsav offers a glimpse into the life and traditions of Goans and also allows tourists to interact with locals, witness rich cultural festivities, and enhance their understanding of Goa, making each trip a truly enriching experience.

Shigmo is a community-driven festival that fosters a strong sense of togetherness and cultural pride. People from all walks of life come together to participate in and witness the festivities, reinforcing the spirit of unity and diversity in Goa.

The Shigmo festival starts with Holi and spans fourteen days, from the 9th moon day to the full moon day.
