VASCO: Raziya Mujawar (68), a resident of Fakir Galli, Vasco, was killed after she was knocked down by a speeding car at Shantinagar, here, on Friday. The police later arrested the car driver, who had fled from the scene after the accident.
The accident occurred when Raziya was crossing the road at Shantinagar, when the car which was proceeding from Varunapuri to Dabolim, knocked her down and ran over her killing instantly. The driver soon fled with the vehicle from the spot without informing the police nor giving medical aid to the victim.
The Vasco police later arrested the driver Amar Harmalkar (24), a resident of Rumdawada-Sada, who was allegedly involved in hit and run case accident and also attached the ill-fated car from Jairam Nagar, Dabolim. The Vasco police conducted the panchanama and sent the body to the South District Hospital, Margao for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered against Harmalkar under Sections 279, and 304 (A) of IPC and under Section 134 (a) (b) of Motor Vehicle Act. PSI Mayur Sawant is conducting investigation under the guidance of Vasco PI Kapil Nayak and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
