With the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) restricted to Panjim and Margao since the last two years, people from in and around Vasco have been missing the entertainment gala.
Live music, films on giant screen, food stalls and cultural programme at Baina beach have been sorely missed by the people of Vasco, as these programmes were earlier staged in the port town.
In 2008, the event was abruptly called off due to barbaric 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai, while in 2009, people who were anxiously waiting for the event was disheartened and the same has been repeated this year too.
“IFFI cultural event was a welcome feature at Baina beach to spent time along with the family, which has been missing for the last two years,” said Shashkant Naik.
“Live music, cultural event were fabulous that attracted large crowd,” said Naik.
Baina beach was centrally located for the people of Mormuago and Vasco and even people from Zuarinagar and other places used to visit Baina beach during the IFFI festival.
“IFFI cultural event had generated large response at Baina beach and it appears that people are missing it,” said Youth Congress President Sankalap Amonkar.
Amonkar said IFFI cultural events have been stopped in all the 11 taluka. “It will be my initiate to convince the government that people from Vasco are missing the IFFI fun fare and the government resumes cultural events.”
