Vascoites demand full-fledged KTC shuttle service from market point

VASCO: People from Vasco and nearby areas on Monday demanded a full-fledged KTC shuttle service from the market point, where it initially operated earlier.

The people also complained about the hardship they face to board KTC buses from the KTC Bus Stand.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, when the public mode of transport was restricted, the passengers, especially office goers and the students, who travel far to study in colleges etc, have been facing hardship due to the restricted timings of KTC shuttle service from Vasco, near the market point.

According to the information available, the people who were using this point to point public transport services for a long time are now facing problems to travel to faraway places etc due to restricted timings of the shuttle service.

A high school teacher from Vasco on the condition of anonymity said she and other women who travel from Panjim and other places to Vasco for jobs face problems as the shuttle service is now operating with restricted timing, not like earlier.

“People who work in the port town have to board a bus or hire motorcycle pilots and have to rush to KTC bus stand to board a bus. This exercise leads to wastage of time,” she complained.

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, who is also the chairman of Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd, said there is a problem with regards to starting the shuttle service from Vasco point as there are no sufficient passengers.

He said the KTC few days ago started its shuttle service but the response was lukewarm. Although, the other KTC buses are also operating, people can make use of them.

Almeida said if they receive requests from the people then they would think of starting shuttle service but one cannot assure that it would receive a good response.
